The Government of Senegal has received funding from the World Bank to implement the Tourism and Enterprise Development Project (PDTE). The objective of development of the project (ODP) is to create the necessary conditions for the increase of private investments in tourism in the commune of Saly and the reinforcement of the development of the companies in Senegal.
In addition, the project aims to complement other ongoing reforms that promote economic development and, in the long run, promote private sector job creation. It will therefore address the challenges that continue to hinder the competitiveness of the tourism sector and help to alleviate constraints to business development and growth and exports.
As stated in the ESP, Senegal relies mainly on private sector-led growth to improve productivity and competitiveness. This project is aligned with the achievement of the long-term objectives of the ESP as expressed in its “ Accelerating Inclusive Growth and Creating Jobs ” strand .
This project has the following 3 components :
- Component A: Sustainable development of tourist destinations, whose objective is to develop the sector by ensuring diversification and improvement of the quality of the products offered. It will finance the following activities: technical assistance to support the diversification of the tourism product and the promotion of the destination, capacity building of support institutions and civil works aimed at preserving the hotel infrastructure. the seaside resort of Saly and protect the fishing village of Saly Niakh Niakhal (physical restoration, protection and maintenance of beaches).
- Component B: Business Creation and Growth Support, which aims to further improve Senegal’s investment climate for effective infrastructure to facilitate the delivery of government services to enterprises, improve access to finance and other business development services. It will fund the establishment of a shared-cost fund for SMEs, and the organization of an annual business plan competition.
- Component C : Provide support to APIX-SA to manage and coordinate the project and strengthen its capacity in procurement, financial management, coastal zone management, management of environmental and social safeguards , communication, monitoring and evaluation through the provision of relevant advisory services.
